Getting a Job in the Game Industry: Tips and Tricks with Industry Veterans

 

Ever aspire to create art for video games? Then join us on Thursday, February 7th, for an evening of insider advice on how to land that dream job as game industry veterans from Turn 10 Studios343 Industries, and more take the Lenovo Stage at Gnomon to offer insight into the careers available and what it takes to get them.

 

As members of the Microsoft Studios family, which also includes inXile EntertainmentObsidian EntertainmentThe InitiativeUndead LabsThe CoalitionCompulsions Games and more, our presenters will be giving an overview of their associated studios and their differences before diving in to career paths and reel tips and tricks for those interested in modeling and texturing for characters and environments, animation, VFX, and tech art. If you’ve ever wanted to work in games, this event will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the major career paths available to artists in the industry, as well as the technical and soft skills that can help get you that job.

 

Seating is limited and this event will not be streamed, so be sure to RSVP and arrive in good time to secure a place in line. Attendee check-in will open at approximately 6:30 PM; a valid Eventbrite RSVPwill be required to get an event wristband.

 

 

Gnomon School of VFX's full-time programs and 10-week individual courses are designed to develop well-rounded artists that are skilled in the diverse disciplines within 3D production. For those outside of the US, virtual classroom-style online courses are also available.

Matt Collins
CG Supervisor, Turn 10 Studios
 

Matt is the CG Supervisor at Turn 10, managing art production and quality for its flagship Forza Motorsport title. He has BA in Illustration from Plymouth State College and a 2-year Computer Animation Degree from Digipen University. Matt started out with a 3D animation and FX position at Nintendo Software Technologies and has since been with Microsoft and Turn 10 for the last 15 years, working on all 7 of the Motorsport titles.

Tim Dean
Art Director, Turn 10 Studios
 

Tim is an Art Director at Turn 10 with twenty-four years of experience in the game industry. Starting out in animation at Stormfront Studios, Tim has additionally worked at Treyarch and Neversoft before moving to Microsoft to launch the Xbox 360 and work as the publishing-side franchise Art Director for the first, second, and third installments of Gears of War, among others. He joined Turn 10 seven years ago to build Forza Motorsport 5, and as a car nerd, it’s been a perfect fit ever since.

Adrien Cho
Outsource & Vendor Manager, 343 Industries
 

Adrien works with external teams to aid with the development of the next Halo title. Part of his day-to-day responsibilities include fostering relationships with external development studios across the globe, trying to find partners who have specific skill sets. Adrien also works with vendor agencies to help bring in talent to support the internal 343 Industries art teams. Prior to 343, Adrien worked at BioWare where he helped ship Neverwinter Nights, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Patrick Gillette
Animation Director, 343 Industries
 

Pat is the Animation Director at 343 Industries. His job is to champion the player experience through the lens of animation and establish and maintain the stylistic vision and quality bar for all animation across the project. Pat earned a B.A. in Digital Arts and Animation from Cogswell Polytechnical College and has been able to contribute to a variety of projects over the course of his career, focusing on gameplay animation. Pat has spent the better part of the last 10 years working on the Halo franchise, shipping Halo: Reach, Halo 4 and Halo 5.
