Fashion Ahead of its Time: Designing for 3D Printing
Discover how leading fashion designers and digital artists use 3D printing to create striking garments and costumes. As part of the LA Design Festival Program, Gnomon brings Dutch Fashion Tech Designer, Anouk Wipprecht, and Quantum FX Lead Digital Artist, Ceres Regnum to the Stage to share insights into their fascinating worlds creating wearable designs for fashion, films, commercials, and more. For those inspired and looking to get started in designing for 3D printing, a concluding live demo will offer plentiful tips and tricks to help you jump-start your passion projects.
Anouk Wipprecht uses machine learning and biomimicry coupled to sensors and animatronics giving her designs movement, and the ability to react to the world around them. She will discuss the possibilities of interactive fashion and how technology has never been so close to the skin, and will share her thoughts on new ways we can interface and build micro-controlled garments to provoke a generation.
Ceres Regnum will talk through the pipeline of making props and costumes for films and commercials, from concept to 3D printing. The talk will discuss traditional sculpting, body-shopping, molding, casting, assembly, and painting, through to the final product. The lecture will also offer insights into working with clients and production companies, and how to solve typical problems and difficulties on set.
RSVP to attend for free; seating is on a first-come-first-served basis, so be sure to arrive in good time to secure your place in line. Alternatively, follow along on Livestream and ask questions during the live event using #gnomon on Twitter.

Fashion Tech Designer
Anouk Wipprecht combines the latest in science and technology to make fashion an experience that transcends appearance. Her garments facilitate and augment the interactions we have with ourselves and our surroundings; her Spider Dress is a perfect example, where sensors and moveable arms help to create a more defined boundary of personal space while employing a fierce style. Partnering with the likes of Intel, Autodesk, Google, Microsoft, Cirque Du Soleil, Audi, and 3D printing company Materialise, she researches how the future could look as we continue to embed technology into what we wear.
