Designing 3D Characters for Games — Techniques plus Q&A

Join us Wednesday, December 16th, at 7:30 PM for an evening with Senior 3D Artist, Gary Huang. With over six years of experience working at top video game studios, Gary will reveal the techniques and thought processes that contribute to creating successful characters for AAA titles. Looking at three key pieces from his eclectic 3D character portfolio, he will discuss the development of his visual style, his approaches to modeling and sculpting both organic and hard-surface models, as well as how to create characters for real-time cinematics for the Unreal Engine. Originally from Taiwan, Gary’s career path has led him on an impressive route through Activision, Bungie, NCSOFT, Sony Computer Entertainment, The Workshop Entertainment, and into his current position at a video game publisher in Santa Monica. Along with personal work and previous roles in the industry, Gary will talk about how his fine art and design background provided a foundation for computer graphics that ultimately earned him credits on projects including Halo: Reach, SOCOM 4, UNIT 13, and The Evil Within, to name a few.

The event is free and open to the public. Entry is by RSVP only, and seating is first come first served. If you can't make it to Hollywood, be sure to follow Gnomon on Livestream to watch the full event for free from anywhere in the world.

Disclaimer: Gary will not be talking about his current position or the professional projects he is working on. The presentation will focus on his past and personal career and works.
