An Evening with Alex Alvarez: Creating Natural 3D Environments
Join us on Thursday, June 2nd, at 7:00 PM for an evening with Alex Alvarez, and discover his tried-and-tested processes for creating detailed and photo-real natural 3D environments. The workflow demonstration will discuss a combination of tools and techniques, detailing how he uses Maya, V-Ray, ZBrush, photogrammetry, and more, to craft vast and expansive CG landscapes. Alex will also offer an in-depth look at Agisoft Photoscan and describe how to photograph, process, and clean up natural assets such as rocks, cliff faces, logs, and trees for digital scenes. A 30-minute Q&A session with Alex will round up the evening at 9 PM

Alex Alvarez is Founder and President of the Gnomon school of visual effects, games, and animation in Los Angeles, as well as The Gnomon Workshop, the renowned online training platform for artists. Fast Company magazine described Alex as a visionary who has helped change the face of computer graphics education. He has been published in numerous magazines, websites, and books, and has taught at many international conferences. He’s dedicated the past 18 years to educating students and professional artists around the world while also working professionally as a creature development artist on such projects as James Cameron’s Avatar, J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, Super 8,Green Lantern, and Prometheus.
