Demystifying Substance Designer

Demystifying Substance Designer

The Gnomon Workshop is pleased to announce the release of "Demystifying Substance Designer"an artistic approach with Christophe Desse.

In this lecture, Christophe Desse demonstrates how he uses Substance Designer to efficiently generate textures for his 3D assets. As the title implies, the goal of this title is to remove the fears and inhibitions that could arise when presented with such a powerful a node based texturing system. The first part of the lecture is an introduction to the tools, with an overview of rendering in iray. Christophe then delves into the main project where an airplane and pilot are fully textured using a simple but effective approach. In conclusion, the project is rendered first in iray within substance designer, and then in Redshift for Maya.

Figure Fundamentals Volume 3: Drawing the Female Head

The Gnomon Workshop is pleased to announce the release of "Figure Fundamentals Volume 3: Drawing the Female Head" with Van Arno.

Head drawing is tricky for both beginning and experienced figurative artists. This is because we have preconceived notions about how features should look, and this undermines our ability to let observation of the model drive our composition. As in all figure drawing, striving to make things look how we think they should look interferes with our ability to draw what we see. This difficulty is multiplied when we draw the head due to our many misconceptions about its structure.

Figure Fundamentals Volume 2

The Gnomon Workshop is pleased to announce the release of "Figure Fundamentals Volume 2: Construction For Perspective and Volume" with Van Arno.

Van Arno's series on drawing the human figure continues in Volume Two with discussions on drawing a male model. The anatomical differences from the female are noted. Poses of action and contortion then lead to a discussion of volumes in three dimensions. Van demonstrates how, with longer poses, the model can be drawn with simple volumes and then redrawn from another angle, without the model present.
